About Me

Hi I’m Ian,

I am currently focused on developing, executing and evangelizing the Alterian web engagement product strategy – my interest primarily focused around web content management (WCM), how to gain audience insight through web analytics, social media and to deliver this through multi-channel publishing.

I joined Alterian through being the CTO at Mediasurface, a CMS vendor that Alterian aquired in July 2008 and I previously held various customer facing and product marketing and strategy roles having joined Mediasurface in 2003. I’ve focused on web technologies for the last ten years, working with some of the major vendors and pioneers in this area, particularity during my tenure with Vignette.

I am second generation techie, my father was a programmer and my first computer experiences are of playing with punched cards and tape as a child, until BASIC and that first ‘microcomputer’ entered our house (a Texas Instruments TI-99/4a).

I love my work, but when I am not thinking about buzzwords to add to this ‘About me’ page, I enjoy a beer and good conversation, football, F1, the sound of a V8 and being a Dad – not necessarily in that order. For more of this trivia – I was dared into blogging about 10 things about me.

I am a more occasional than I’d like to be blogger and a frequent public speaker, talking at various industry events and seminars – you can see me waving my hands around at events including Technology for Marketing, Gilbane, Butler CMS Symposium and Internet World.

This is my personal blog, so whilst I witter on about work related stuff, my views are not always representative of Alterian – although I’d hope they were pretty close.

Say hello – I am on TwitterLinkedIn or e-mail me.

Cheers!

Ian
